UNHCR October 2022 Outlook News

In October 2022, Somalia hosted 34,170 registered refugees and asylum-seekers, with the majority originating from Ethiopia and Yemen. UNHCR, in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), reported, 192,000 new internal displacements in Somalia during that month. A significant portion of these displacements was due to conflict/insecurity and the drought. UNHCR also implemented Vulnerability Assessments to support targeted assistance to those affected by the drought. 

UNHCR Somalia Registered Refugees and Asylum-seekers – 31 October 2022. As of 31 October 2022, Somalia is hosting 34,170 refugees and asylum-seekers, among which 70% are women and children. The majority of refugees and asylum-seekers 67% are from Ethiopia, followed by Yemen 29%,Syria 4% and other countries 1%.
